![]() ![]() Music to which you can take time to reflect and remember Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her legacy. ![]() Her legacy will be one admired, honoured and studied for centuries to come.ĪBC Classic has compiled a selection of music that would have been very familiar to Her Majesty, if not the pieces themselves, certainly the composers many English. She was the longest-lived and longest-reigning British monarch, the longest-serving female head of state in history, and a person who was deeply loved by generations around the globe. The Princess was with her parents and younger sister on a tour of South Africa: it was not long before fate would strike a terrible personal blow for her, her mother and her sister, that saw the Princess become queen regnant at 25 in 1952, leading to her coronation in 1953 at the age of 27. Who knew how those, seemingly simple but profound words presented by Princess Elizabeth, on her twenty-first birthday, April 1947, in a speech broadcast on radio from Cape Town, would echo through the ages! “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” ![]()
